Biography

Born in Dublin , Ireland 2nd July 1974. From an early age of around thirteen he showed a keen interest in Jazz by winning in first place at the prestigious annual cultural festival in Dublin “Feis Ceoil” three years running. Though largely self-taught , his obvious talent was developed by David O Rourke. Learning fast he went on to impressing Dublin audiences sharing the stage with players such as Louis Stewart , Jim Doherty , John Wadahm , Richie Buckley , Brian Dunning , Noel Keleghan , and Honor Heffernan.

Philip moved to Norway in 2002. He studied at the University Of Stavanger where he holds a Masters degree in music performance. He released his first solo album in 2010 under his own name titled “ NOW “ featuring one of Norway’s leading saxophonists Tore Brunburg. He performs regulary at jazz festivals in Europe. He has collaborated with Scandinavian musicians such as Håkon Mjåset Johansen , Stein Inge Brækhus , Tor Ytredal , Erlend Slettevoll , Svein Folkvord , Heinrich Von Kalnein , Svein Olav Herstad.

Other musicians from England / Scotland / USA have included Bobby Wellins , Jim Mullen , Laurence Cottle , Brian Kellock , Dave O Higgins ,Jack Wilkins , Paul Langosch .

His style and compositions have developed out of the contemporary, primary American jazz tradition. But since his move to Scandinavia he has been inspired by a lot of the European jazz scene.
